Friday Evening…now what?

(Read this only if you feel something’s missing from life as it is)

It’s Friday evening and you’re just done with your 9 to 5 (or 12 to 7 or whatever it is, you get the point!). If you’re among the millions of people on Planet Earth who are working jobs that do not fulfill them, the chances are, you feel that a huge burden has been lifted of your back. In schoolboy terminology, you were waiting for the bell to ring all along, and now it has!

At this point of time, you may not have plans of going out (given that we’re living through COVID and usually lock ourselves up at home). So you decide to rewind by watching something entertaining or funny on Youtube or Netflix. If that’s not the case, you’re probably scrolling your Social Media feed of other platforms like FB or Instagram. Here’s what you’re saying to yourself (or a variant of it at least) “I’ve worked hard the whole weak and deserve to treat myself right. I need to RELAX.”

Will somebody please tell me when it’s not a time to “treat yourself right” ?

I can’t think of a single instance.

What is annoying however, is confusing “treating ourselves right” with doing something pleasurable or comfortable (playing video games, watching some stupid Youtube video…[pick your choice])

Monday to Friday when you do not have this luxury, you’re thinking of how you’re going to be the Superman of productivity this weekend and execute on that project or hobby you have at the back of your mind.

Come weekend and you’ve got thousand and one plans. Come Monday again and you’ve executed on the same number of plans as you did last week: ZERO.

I don’t know what the excuse might be, it still affirms that you got nothing done and love lying to yourself about what you’re going to do “SOMEDAY”.

Trust me…there’s no someday. I’ve not seen “someday” on any calendar in the 28 year’s I’ve been living on God’s green earth.

I’m typing this on a Friday evening, hoping that I can wake you up from autopilot mode.

Work on that project now !
